Iosifina Ioannou is a Partner and lawyer at Sofokleous & Ioannou. She is a Barrister-at-Law with a strong professional and academic background in criminal law, advocacy and the law of evidence.
She graduated from Nottingham Law School in 2017. In 2018, she completed the Bar Professional Training Course (BPTC) and obtained her Master’s degree in Law.
During her studies, Iosifina gained practical legal experience through a number of pro bono cases, attending Courts and Tribunals and working with law firms in both England and Cyprus. She also participated in mock trials and mock applications organised by the University, the Bar Society and the Inns of Court, receiving prizes for advocacy.
In 2018, Iosifina was called to the Bar of England and Wales by The Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn. Following the successful completion of her pupillage, she was admitted to the Cyprus Bar Association in 2019 and has since developed her practice across a wide range of criminal matters.
Since September 2020, Iosifina has also been a PhD researcher at the Department of Law of the University of Cyprus, under the supervision of Associate Professor Charis Papacharalambous.
Her doctoral research comparatively examines the rule of hearsay evidence and its admissibility in criminal cases under Cyprus law and jurisprudence, addressing an evidential issue of significant theoretical and practical importance.
Her academic research complements her criminal law practice, bringing together courtroom advocacy, legal analysis and a particular focus on evidential issues in criminal proceedings.
