Katerina
Sofokleous<\/h2>\n <\/div>\n\n
\n\n

\n Katerina Sofokleous is a Partner and lawyer at Sofokleous\n & Ioannou, with a particular focus on criminal law and\n criminal justice. Prior to joining the firm, she practised\n as a lawyer and legal consultant at Ilias A. Stephanou LLC,\n where she specialised in criminal law.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n She holds an LL.B. from the University of Cyprus, where she\n graduated with an overall grade of 9.12\/10 and received an\n Award of Excellence and the First Prize for the best academic\n performance for the period 2013\u20132017. She subsequently\n obtained an LL.M. in Criminal Law and Criminal Justice from\n the University of Edinburgh. Her postgraduate dissertation\n examined questions of criminal liability arising during the\n coronavirus crisis, with particular focus on the criminal\n liability of medical professionals.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Katerina is currently a PhD Candidate in Criminal Law at the\n University of Cyprus under the supervision of Professor\n Charalambos Papacharalambous. Her academic and research\n interests extend across criminal liability, criminal\n procedure, sexual offences, cybercrime, sentencing, femicide\n and the development of criminal legislation.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Alongside her legal practice, she is actively involved in\n legal education and professional training. She has taught\n International Criminal Law at the University of Cyprus and,\n since 2022, has served as a lawyer trainer with the European\n Legal Training Center, contributing to the continuing\n professional education of lawyers. Her teaching activity\n includes professional seminars on criminal procedure,\n covering the process from arrest through appeal.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Her professional and research experience also includes a\n strategic collaboration with the Association for the\n Protection of the Rights of Prisoners and Released Prisoners.\n She has participated in research projects concerning\n criminal justice, sentencing, femicide and legislative\n reform, including research connected with the National\n Action Plan against Crime for the Ministry of Justice.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n Katerina has also served as an Investigating Officer in an\n investigation concerning manipulated basketball matches,\n following her appointment by the Committee of Ethics and\n Safeguarding in Sport.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n She has written extensively on contemporary criminal law and\n criminal justice issues. Her publications and legal\n commentary have addressed subjects including conspiracy,\n sexual consent and sexual offences, cybercrime, sexting and\n sextortion, revenge pornography, femicide, sexist hate speech\n and criminal liability during the COVID-19 pandemic. Her work\n has appeared in legal and academic publications as well as\n Cyprus Legal News, SigmaLive, Phileleftheros and AlphaLive\n News.\n <\/p>\n\n

\n She has also participated as a speaker in professional and\n academic conferences and seminars on criminal law, sexual\n harassment and related criminal justice matters.\n <\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n\n <\/section>\n\n\n \n
